It's supposed to be one of the most memorable moments ever, but for many girls, prom heel stories take center stage on the big night. They're the sort of tales a woman might laugh about one day, but on prom night there's nothing more embarrassing than a broken heel!
The Horror of Girls Prom Heel Stories
For many teenage girls, prom night is the equivalent of an adult's wedding day. Though obviously not as grand in scale, a similar amount of effort is put into finding the perfect dress, shoes and accessories for the occasion. But what happens when all of that effort suddenly meets with disaster? When it comes to shoes, there's more than just the old broken heel scenario to think about. You'd be surprised at the number of quandaries girls have gotten into over the years! Take a peek at these girls prom heel stories for an idea of what can happen. Who knows? It might make you think twice about those glamorous shoes you've had your eye on.
The Broken Heel
It's the most common, and in addition to being a mood-dampener, it can also be dangerous! When you're sporting a pair of super-high heels adorned with Swarovski crystals or other fancy embellishments, you're probably not thinking about anything other than how much of a movie star you feel like at that moment. That kind of confidence is great on prom night - but not at the cost of a broken heel!
All that dancing and walking can easily lend your shoes the same amount of wear and tear they'd normally experience over a longer period of time. Unfortunately, a heel break is sometimes inevitable. It's best to be prepared in the event of an emergency. Slip a tube of shoe glue, such as Shoe Goo, into your handbag for the evening. If your heel is nailed into the sole, coat the nails with glue and gently slide them back into place. You'll have to sit out a few dances while you wait for the glue to dry.
If the heel is glued onto the sole, simply scrape off the old glue, coat the heel with fresh glue and press it to the sole until the glue is dry.
Slip and Fall
Another nightmare that doesn't just apply to prom night is tripping and falling flat on your face. It's awful no matter where you are! To make matters worse, on prom night it can happen whether you have your shoes on or not.
Take the example of one young woman, whose story is a classic tale of high school mortification. When it came time to dance the "Electric Slide," she decided it would be better to attempt the jig sans footwear, so she took her shoes off. This is actually a smart idea - if your dress isn't so full and lengthy that it grazes the floor! The young woman's foot got caught inside her dress and - you guessed it - she proceeded to fall flat into the arms of an upperclassman. Needless to say, his response wasn't too kind!
The solution to this is relatively simple. If you plan to really get down on prom night, you might consider wearing a dress that doesn't extend beyond your bare feet. There's a chance you might want to remove your shoes (as some people do when their legs start to tire), and you don't want to trip!
Prom Queen Nightmare
For some, earning that coveted prom queen title is the ultimate achievement. Yet even a simple moment of crowning glory can be tainted by a cursed pair of shoes. One young woman shares her joy at being voted the "Belle of the Ball." As she climbed the stage, she stepped on her dress and fell flat on her face. Not letting a little thing like that stop her, she got back up and attempted to regain her stride. The fall, however, had left her dizzy, so she leaned back for a moment. Bad idea - the next thing she knew, the heel of one shoe broke, she fell backward and her ankle broke.
Unfortunately, there aren't an instant fixes for a situation like this. If you're not used to wearing heels, you might want to break in your shoes for a week or two prior to the prom. This way, you get used to them and they get used to the strain of hitting the pavement! You'll also learn well in advance if the shoes are too weak to handle a night of dancing. The moral of this story, though, is to be careful as you climb those stairs in a long dress and towering heels!
Solutions to Shoe Shenanigans
If heels aren't your shoe of choice, you don't feel comfortable dancing in them or you're just nervous about wearing them, you have some other options. Consider a pair of low-heel sandals to get you through the night in comfort and style. Thong sandals and shoes with ankle straps are good choices for secure footwear.
